September 2010 Meeting This Friday – 7pm @Hive13

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

It’s time for another meeting and I have played around a little with the new google voice integration with gmail and will be giving a demo on using it and some android apps for prank telephone calls. Coming to the talk guarantees that you won’t get pranked in the demo, if you wuss out, expect some strange voicemail.

If anyone else has something to present, feel free. If not, we will be doing hacker movie night and watching either a hacker themed movie or videos of talks from hacker cons.

May 2010 Meeting This Friday – 7pm @Hive13

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

So, May 2010 meeting is this Friday (7th) at 7pm. There aren’t any scheduled talks, so it is most likely going to be a bit more casual this month. I’m sure there will be a variety of projects out for everyone to examine and inquire into, but keep in mind if you don’t have permission and you’re not sure who’s is what, it’s prudent to keep your hands to yourself ;) .

Everyone who’s anyone will be heading out after the meeting for something or another, we’ll figure it out.

Anyone wishing to give a talk should register with int0×80, Chris Anderson, xio2, or just show up and start talking at us.

Everyone is welcome, if you’re under 18 please bring an adult with you, otherwise we’ll have to completely ignore your age and go on with life as usual.

See you soon <3

March 2010 Meeting Tonight – 7pm @Hive13

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Hey all, a lot of attention has been redirected toward Hive13 recently, thus the evident neglect you see in the form of updates, however. We’re still going strong!

Tonight’s meeting should be fairly casual, with Chris Anderson and Karl Wilbur broadly discussing basic hard drive forensics, and Justin Sovine giving an overview on bioreactors and the future of the Hive13 photobioreactor. New topics are still being accepted, if you have anything you’d like to present or discuss please feel free to bring it up at the meeting.

Pizza, drinks, couches, hax…what more could you ask for?

Moar BackTrack 4 and eeePC

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

I re-did my eeePC 701 last night and now have BackTrack 4 pre-final booting from a 2GB USB drive and using the 4GB SSD for persistent changes.  My process is very similar to what the guys from Offensive Security showed.

Items I used:

  • bt4-pre-final.iso
  • 4GB SSD (/dev/sda)
  • 16GB USB (/dev/sdb)
  • 2GB USB (/dev/sdd)

Here are the steps:

  1. Follow the video but substitute the proper device paths where applicable
  2. When editing the menu.lst, add this to the KERNEL line:  changes=/dev/sda1
  3. ?????
  4. Profit

Post questions, complaints, etc in the comments.
