March 2, 2012 meeting – 7:00pm @ Hive13

This Friday, Justin Sovine (xio2) will be casually presenting an introduction to Dwarf Fortress. Including but not limited to:

  • Downloading and installing the game
  • Modifying the game configuration (including tilesets and graphics packs)
  • Generating a new world and finding your first embark site
  • A basic overview of embark profiles (starting skills & items)
  • Understanding the graphics and user interface
  • Your first in-game year: what to do, what to expect, and why you’re probably going to die.
  • Explain the DF premise that “losing is Fun”
  • Short, interesting stories and artwork from forts found on the internet
  • Resources and community

2600 is on for this friday night. shadoxx will be presenting on and demonstrating how to reverse router firmware. afterwards, shadoxx will DJ a set.

the meeting and musical performance are open to the public so please stop by.

my speaker for this month fell thru, and i don’t have anything else
prepared.

if someone wants to do a talk or demo, i’m all for it, if not i’m
going to hang out at hive13 tonight and move and re-wire the server
rack.

the hive will be open to the public while i’m there if you want to
come hang out.
